Has AI’s potential been compromised by corporate greed?
Book review: 'Supremacy' by Parmy Olson
In my latest AI book review, I’m exploring ‘Supremacy’ by Parmy Olson —a gripping, insider account of two of AI’s most powerful figures: Sam Altman (OpenAI) and Demis Hassabis (DeepMind).
This reads more like a thriller than an academic text book as Olson describes how both founders started with grand, idealistic visions—only to be seduced by the power and influence of Microsoft and Google.
I use this book in my AI courses to get delegates to confront the threats posed by AI. Olson’s key message is that, instead of focusing on the possibility of an AI domination at some point in the future, what about the ethics and governance problems we’re already facing?
Watch the video above for more insight, and please get in touch if you’d like to explore AI governance within your organisation.
