What happens when machines follow the rules and still get it wrong?

Book review: 'I, Robot' by Isaac Asimov

In this video, I review "I, Robot" by Isaac Asimov, a collection of short stories that introduced the famous Three Laws of Robotics. First published in 1950, the book explores what happens when those laws clash – and what that means for humanity.

Why is this still relevant? Because the dilemmas Asimov imagined are now real. AI systems today are making decisions in healthcare, finance, policing, and beyond — often without transparency or accountability. Like the robots in I, Robot, they follow logic, but their impact on people’s lives can be anything but predictable.

Whether you’re an AI optimist or a sceptic, I, Robot is essential reading — not just for what it says about robots, but for what it reveals about us.
